Thread Veins Treatments

Microsclerotherapy

This is a known successful, well established treatment for thread veins on the leg. As with sclerotherapy no anaesthetic is required and the procedure is performed as an out patient. A sclerosant is injected into the vein injuring the cells in the lining of the vein. The vein becomes sticky and seals shut. Micro sclerotherapy treats only superficial threadveins with a very tiny needle.

Compression is immediately applied to the area and stockings must be worn for 2 weeks to prevent blood returning to the treated veins.Over time the treated vein will fade and be absorbed by the body. Side effects may include mild bruising, brown staining caused by iron pigment leaking from trapped blood (rarely permanent) and matting which occurs when the fragile vessel is injured during injection leaving a mat of tiny vessels which appear like a blush or small bruise. Ulceration and scarring are rare.
